India’s console gaming market enters its busiest month of 2026 with three major developments converging: Grand Theft Auto VI’s confirmed worldwide launch on 26 May for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, a stacked Xbox Game Pass April lineup headlined by Hades II, and PlayStation Plus adding Lords of the Fallen and Tomb Raider I-III Remastered as free titles for subscribers.

GTA VI: What Indian Gamers Need to Know

Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto VI is set to release exclusively on next-generation consoles — PS5 and Xbox Series X/S — on 26 May 2026. The game will not be available on PS4, Xbox One or PC at launch, with the PC version expected between late 2027 and early 2028 based on Rockstar’s established release pattern for previous GTA titles. This marks a significant moment for console gaming in India.

Indian pricing has not been officially announced, but the standard edition is expected to cost upwards of Rs 5,999, with special editions and DLC bundles potentially reaching Rs 7,499. Set in the fictional state of Leonida — a satirical version of Florida — the game features the franchise’s first female protagonist and a return to Vice City. Pre-orders are active on major Indian e-commerce platforms and the PlayStation Store India.

Xbox Game Pass April 2026 Lineup

Microsoft has confirmed the Xbox Game Pass additions for April, and the list is substantial. Hades II, the highly anticipated sequel to Supergiant Games’ acclaimed roguelike, leads the lineup. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019 remaster) and Football Manager 2026 are also included, alongside several indie titles. Game Pass continues to be a strong value proposition for Indian gaming enthusiasts at approximately Rs 349 per month for the standard tier.

PlayStation Plus April Freebies

Sony’s PlayStation Plus April 2026 games include Lords of the Fallen, Tomb Raider I-III Remastered and Sword Art Online: Fractured Daydream. Lords of the Fallen, a challenging Soulslike action RPG, is the headliner and represents strong value for subscribers. These titles are available to download from the first Tuesday of the month and remain accessible as long as the subscription is active.

India’s Console Market in 2026

The Nintendo Switch 2 India launch and PS5 Pro price drop earlier this spring have already heated up the Indian console segment. GTA VI is expected to be a system-seller, potentially driving a significant spike in PS5 and Xbox Series X sales in the weeks before launch.

The Indian gaming market at large continues to expand. The mobile gaming segment targets $4 billion in 2026, while the PC gaming market has exploded thanks to affordable GPUs and local esports leagues. Console gaming, though a smaller segment, is growing faster than at any point in the past decade, driven by subscription services and blockbuster exclusive launches.
