Shots Fired Outside Diljit Dosanjh Manager Gurpartap Singh Kang Home in Karnal as Lawrence Bishnoi Gang Claims Responsibility and Punjab CM Blames BJP Intimidation

In an incident that has sent shockwaves through the Indian entertainment industry and ignited a fierce political controversy, gunshots were allegedly fired outside the residence of Punjabi superstar Diljit Dosanjh’s manager, Gurpartap Singh Kang, in Karnal, Haryana, on Tuesday, 13 May 2026. Aides of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi — including Tyson Bishnoi, Arzoo Bishnoi and Hari Boxer — subsequently claimed responsibility for the alleged firing through a social media post, escalating an already tense security situation around one of India’s most popular entertainers.

The incident has drawn parallel attention from law enforcement, the entertainment industry and political circles, with Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann making the explosive accusation that the attack was linked to Diljit Dosanjh’s refusal to join the BJP — a claim that the ruling party has vehemently denied. The targeting of a celebrity manager’s home by a notorious criminal gang, combined with the incendiary political allegations, has made this one of the most talked-about news stories in India.

What Happened in Karnal

According to the social media post attributed to Lawrence Bishnoi’s associates, gunshots were fired outside Kang’s ancestral home in Gonder village, Karnal district, on Tuesday evening. However, the situation on the ground presents a more ambiguous picture. Karnal Superintendent of Police Narendra Bijarniya said that the police had not received any formal complaint from Kang or his family regarding the alleged firing. “There is no information from the family side,” the SP said, adding that a police team visited Kang’s village and carried out a preliminary investigation.

“Nothing was recovered from the spot,” Bijarniya told reporters, adding that the police were investigating the claim made in the social media post. The absence of physical evidence — such as bullet casings, damage to property or eyewitness testimony — has raised questions about whether shots were actually fired, or whether the social media claim was a purely psychological intimidation tactic. The Lawrence Bishnoi gang has previously used similar social media posts to claim responsibility for attacks and threats against celebrities, including the high-profile shooting at actor Salman Khan’s Mumbai residence in 2024.

The Lawrence Bishnoi Connection

Lawrence Bishnoi, a jailed gangster currently held in Gujarat’s Sabarmati Central Jail, has been linked to a series of high-profile criminal activities targeting celebrities, businessmen and politicians across northern India. His network, which operates through a decentralised command structure using encrypted communications and social media platforms, has been responsible for extortion threats, shootings and the 2022 murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala — a crime that shocked the nation and remains one of the most investigated cases in recent Indian criminal history.

The targeting of Diljit Dosanjh’s manager, if confirmed, would represent an expansion of the Bishnoi gang’s celebrity intimidation activities. Dosanjh, a global music sensation who has performed sold-out concerts across North America, Europe and Asia, has not been previously associated with any known conflict with the Bishnoi network. The motive behind the alleged attack — whether extortion, political pressure or personal vendetta — remains unclear, though the political explanation offered by Punjab’s Chief Minister has added a volatile dimension to the story.

Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann’s Explosive Allegation

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, speaking to reporters in Delhi on Wednesday, alleged that the attack on Kang’s residence was directly linked to Diljit Dosanjh’s refusal to enter politics on behalf of the BJP. “It is unfortunate that after ace singer Diljit Dosanjh declined to enter politics, the BJP has resorted to intimidation tactics against him,” Mann said, drawing a connection to the recent political success of actor Vijay, whose Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam party won power in Tamil Nadu.

“After actor Vijay’s success in Tamil Nadu’s political landscape, the BJP had realised that artistes enjoy greater public acceptance and had therefore attempted to bring Diljit Dosanjh into politics,” Mann claimed. “Since Diljit Singh declined the BJP’s offer, politics of intimidation has begun against him, which is unfair. Attacking his manager’s house reflects this politics of threat.” AAP leader and Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Cheema echoed the allegation, saying that “the use of criminal gangs to intimidate artistes who refuse political co-option is a dangerous precedent that strikes at the heart of democracy and creative freedom.”

BJP Denies Allegations, Calls Them Diversionary

The BJP has categorically denied any connection to the alleged shooting or any attempt to pressure Diljit Dosanjh into joining the party. A BJP spokesperson dismissed Mann’s allegations as “irresponsible, baseless and politically motivated,” saying the Punjab Chief Minister was “attempting to divert attention from the AAP government’s failure to maintain law and order in the state.” The spokesperson added that the BJP “does not use criminal gangs for any purpose” and called on Mann to “focus on governing Punjab rather than making sensational accusations.”

Haryana’s BJP-led government also pushed back against the allegations, noting that the police investigation in Karnal had found no evidence of an actual shooting. “We are taking the social media claim seriously and investigating it thoroughly,” said Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij. “But it would be premature and irresponsible to link this to any political party without evidence. The AAP is playing politics with a law enforcement matter, and the people of India can see through it.”

Celebrity Security Concerns Mount

The incident has reignited a broader conversation about the security of Indian celebrities, particularly those from the Punjabi entertainment industry, which has been disproportionately targeted by criminal gangs in recent years. The entertainment industry has been on edge since the Moosewala murder, with several singers, actors and music producers receiving extortion threats and being compelled to hire private security teams.

Industry body the Indian Music and Film Artists Association (IMFAA) called for “immediate and comprehensive action by both state and central law enforcement agencies to dismantle criminal networks that target entertainers.” The association also urged the government to extend state-level security to high-profile artistes who face credible threats, noting that the current system — which relies on individuals filing complaints and requesting protection — is inadequate given the scale and sophistication of the threats.

Diljit Dosanjh himself has not made any public statement about the incident. His team, through a brief communication to media, said: “We are aware of the reports and are cooperating with the authorities. We request privacy at this time.” Meanwhile, the investigation in Karnal continues, with police analysing CCTV footage from the area, examining the social media post for digital forensic clues, and interviewing residents of Gonder village. Whether the incident leads to arrests or remains another chapter in the ongoing saga of celebrity targeting by criminal networks in India remains to be seen.
